On Friday, February 15th, 2013 the Sears Art Museum & Gallery at Dixie State College will be holding its annual gala to kick off the spectacular Sears-Dixie Invitational Art Show and Sale. Proceeds from the art sale go directly back to the museum toassist with its operation throughout the year. For the show, some of the best artists from around the country are invited to display and sell their magnificent works of art. Pieces often range in price from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars; rest assured, there is a piece of art for everyone. Established through an endowment by the Robert & Peggy Sears family in the 1980s, the show, now in its third decade, has become a tradition for southern Utah art lovers and collectors.
The annual gala is comprised of a preview of the show, first rights to purchase your favorite pieces, a catered dinner, and entertainment. Tickets are $75/plate, but are well worth it. This year, Scott Anderson, president of Zions Bank, and one of the most renowned collectors in the state will be speaking at the gala. Events begin at 3:00 pm with an art symposium presented by award winning artist Jeremy Winborg. The art preview begins at 4:00 pm, and the dinner is at 6:00 pm.
After the opening gala, the show runs from February 16th through March 31st and is open to the general public.
Being raised in St. George, I had the opportunity to grow along with the Sears Dixie Invitational. I look forward to it every year, and I’m excited to attend the gala and show this year.
